Today, I have a case of the Mondays. Why? Because our bi-monthly cleaning service was coming today, which meant I had to leave my room. Wow, calm your thoughts. I can hear your judgement now. Sometimes you just want to work from your bed in PJs. Well NOT TODAY!
Anyway, as I was saying, I had to leave my room. Not terrible, but cafes and such don’t open until later in the morning. Soooooo I waited until 10 AM, when my favorite place to work from, Padre, would be open. At 10:15 I walked right up to the door of Padre just to discover that it is cerado and won’t open again until Tuesday. Um Excuse me?! You just get Monday off? Come on Padre, was your weekend that hard?
From my experience, Monday’s off was something only afforded to the nice restaurants back home so the chef could rest. But Padre? My little coffee and craft beer bar? Why do they get Mondays off?
As it turns out, this phenomenon has similar roots here in Buenos Aires. I was told Monday’s are the day off for the gastro industry. It’s not just the fancy places, it can be any place. I get it. It’s a really nice sentiment. But when you have a case of the Mondays, this reality doesn’t help.
And even though I am a little peeved at Padre, I will probably be there tomorrow for another vanilla latte in the morning and Scottish Ale in the afternoon.
So, as a friendly reminder to all travelers headed to Buenos Aires, Mondays are pretty low key. Get a ticket to La Bomba at night but take it easy during the day and make sure your eateries are open before you get there. Here’s to looking forward to Tuesday!
Until next time, let’s YanSEE YanDo this thing! Cheers!
